Customer Customization

jrcwroughtiron

At JRC we like to say that everything we do is "made custom". While it might sound like every job we do is a completely different design, what that term really means is that as opposed to pre-fabricating fence and gate panels at a certain size, we wait until we have you the customer face-to-face with us, and we can find to the exact eight of an inch for the length of each span and exact 1/16" for the thickness of each component to best suit you and your project. For example, consider the following fencing job, where a customer wants approx. 10 foot long fence panels covering a span of 57' 3". Instead of panels at 10'O.C. [O.C. = on center, or the distance from the center of the start transition point to the end, usually the posts] we might design each panel to be 9' 6-1/2" O.C. so that they can be equally spaced for the entirety of a span, in this case 6 panels covering a span of exactly 57' 3" instead of having five 10' panels and one odd 7'3" panel. This is a subtlely different approach but often results in a dramatic difference when it comes to aesthetics and quality, which only a custom shop like JRC can provide.

The next level of custom is providing non-standard materials and services to meet a clients extra specific instructions which can't be done without extra planning and skill. While we don't accept all requests, we take pride in finding practical solutions whenever possible to meet these special requests, which can range from custom forging (bending of solid steel) into unique shapes and strengths not already available in a pre-cast design, to custom finishes like distressed steel, to special installations such as into severe slopes.

We recently completed such a customer-specific-request project, where our standard suite of versite and robust powder coat options didn't quite meet the brilliance and slickness that the client desired for their new and very ornate gate. Our customer found a primer type finish which had more of the oil-paint look they wanted, requiring JRC's project manager to connect with both a paint supplier and our painting vendor in order to paint the gate, and have touch up spray cans available in order to be ready at a moment's notice to service any touch up requests later. Ultimately both we and the client are extremely satisfied with the outcome, and it's even pushed us to making this particular primer a standard option for future clients.

This is the attitude of custom everything that while it won't be necessary for all of our clients, ultimately sets us apart from cookie cutter pre-fab brands.
